Privacy policy
Hard Bit privacy
Last updated 4 September 2026
Our approach to privacy
Hard Bit is designed to work without an account. There is no sign-up, no social feed, and no community. The app does not include advertising, third-party analytics, or tracking technologies, and we do not sell personal information.
Information stored on your device
Everything you enter stays on your device. This includes the habits you track, your start dates and counters, daily check-ins, logged uses, hard moments, pledges, journal entries, and the sentence you write about why you are stopping.
The app and its widget share this information through an Apple App Group container on your device. It is not transmitted to us.
The forecast
The forecast is calculated on your device from the entries you have logged. No history is uploaded, and no model is trained on your data anywhere else.
Notifications
Reminders and warning messages are local notifications scheduled on your device for the times the app works out or you choose. Notification permission is optional and can be changed at any time in iOS Settings.
Face ID and app lock
If you turn on the app lock, authentication is handled by iOS. Face ID and passcode data never leave the device and are never available to the app or to us.
Export
Export creates a plain file containing your own entries and hands it to you. Where that file goes afterwards is entirely your choice. Nothing is sent to us as part of an export.
Subscriptions and payment
Subscriptions are processed by Apple through your Apple Account. We do not receive or store your payment details, card numbers, or billing address.
The app checks your subscription status through Apple's StoreKit on the device.
Data sharing and third parties
We do not receive, sell, rent, or share the information stored in the app. The app does not use third-party advertising or analytics services.
Data retention and deletion
You can edit or delete entries inside the app, and delete all of your data from the You tab. Removing the app from your device deletes everything stored locally.
Because nothing is stored on our side, there is no separate account or server copy to request deletion of.
Health and safety
Hard Bit is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. If you are in danger or in crisis, contact the emergency services or a helpline where you are. The app links to help resources relevant to your region.
Children's privacy
The app is not directed at children, and no account or online profile is created.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy if the app's features or privacy practices change. The effective date at the top of this page identifies the latest version.
